Finally, a character who plays multiple copies of their ace legendary card. Ofc the game has always allowed for up to 3 copies of cards in a deck - including legendary cards, but I don't remember anyone else in the anime having played their ace legendary more than once outside of getting copies of them through card effects (Bejeweled Dragon in season 1 would give Hiiro a copy of destroyed Ignis Dragon, and Masquerade Ghost here can return once through his LW effect).

This battle also showcase the big problem of the Control Forest archetype in the game's early lifetime: they mostly could only stall with healing. They didn't have proper finishers (since those would go to their combo or even aggro brethren instead), and their control tools were gimmicky for no good reason (5pp follower that deals 2 aoe damage every EoT isn't exactly the worst control tool in the world, but the fact you need to be topped off to get the amazing 5 aoe damage is an unnecessary gimmick. making Benediction Elf have less health while actually dealing 5 aoe EoT without restriction would make the card so much better. it's leagues above the kind of board clear forest used to have to contend with early on though...). nowadays it's much better: their control tools are good and their heals are much more annoying than ever, but their finishers still feels lacking even if they exists now (again, their combo brethren simply has better finishers, you can kinda blame forestcraft class identity revolving around bouncing cards and playing multiple cards in a turn though, making it very easy to design combo decks with)

Subaru's deck, meanwhile, is simply fantastic. Ghost-centric deck isn't exactly the most tried theme for a Shadowcraft deck in the game, in fact you can basically count only 1 such deck to have ever existed (a deck revolving around "Arcus, Ghostly Manager") and while it was good, top tier at the time even, it wasn't as flashy as Subaru's deck. Easily my most anticipated group of cards from this anime to arrive in the mobile game for a future expansion, whenever that will be.

2:45 they seriously messed the numbers there. And i think this is not first time i see such fail in this anime.

I don't know much about shadowverse but i'm getting interested. And also this series did the characters well. I didn't skip any episode even though the mc is not playing.i mostly do it to the other card series and finally It's tsubasa timeeee i'm really curious about her because she has a solo time in op. o(*⌒―⌒*)o And also loved the fact that subaru's problem was not
solved magically by light. The other shadow series really did not took my interest because the mc was really op and magically solved luca's problem. I mostly skip becuse i felt bored but this series is really great that it felt 5 minutes.

Why curious about some blondie? The purple haired dude is what really brings curiosity. He's dark and gruesome to a fault! I really want to know how his sadist personality came into fruition! :))))

I'm not that curious, idk why but i don't get any interest to him. For now what i know is that he's a "Bully" while tsubasa we've been seeing her quite a while now and we still don't have any information about her other than she's a club president. I guess it's because i saw many characters that is like purple guy that i can predict what role he's going to be and same as purple guy i can kind of predict her personality too, i'm curious about if she's a 2nd mc or just a supporting character because we keep seeing her.

Nah, just your typical 'devil may care girl that will end up realising she LOVES Shadowverse and actually get dedicated to the game'. Believe me as I saw almost every card game anime, her character only has the development of smiling more and liking the game. Whereas a sadist like the purple guy can get both power-ups and character development by winning and losing more battles. That's of course, if the producers care to make a next YuGiOh out of this.

Yep, Subaru is definitely my favorite character in this season so far.

GreenTea Gal • 1 year ago

i like his undead creature motif for some reason ^u^

then you will love Shadowcraft as a class bcos undead is its core theme on visual

and it's often one of the top classes in terms of meta decks, including right now in the mobile game as we speak

neat!

My love for tokusatsu won't allow me to betray Ren, but Subaru is a solid second place for me. He's very relatable.

I don't know about what she says. But someone like Subaru. Lol

Subaru's deck was really cool, but I can't really agree to his personality. The authors missed a golden opportunity to show some deranged things into his character, such as the anger and jealousy to be compared to his brother or a disturbing hatred from abuse which can only be quenched by burying everything into darkness... something like that! He is way too friendly to hold a dark deck in his hand! :(

maybe they thought it was too early in the season to pull the toxic character card just yet. this is a card game anime so you KNOW one's coming, he's in the opening credits sucking a lolipop & cackling

Good episode

It didn't look like she was giving it her all. If you give it your all, you're always gonna be frustrated with a loss.

GreenTea Gal • 1 year ago

not true! i've seen other anime where the person did their absolute best, still lost but wasn't mad 'cause they knew there was nothing more they could have done. nobody was cheating, or holding them back, or sabotaging the game. they were in peak condition but other dude was just better.

Giving it your best already knowing you can't win is different from giving it your ABSOLUTE BEST, if you catch my drift.

There is comfort in already knowing that you can't win. It helps you compose yourself and accept the loss prematurely. You're going to do your best within the confines of that mindset 'I will lose this game'.

That's different from the mindset of this girl, who 'wants to meet the expectations of her members'. Their expectation is for her 'to win'. She didn't, so she didn't live up to their expectations. She wasn't frustrated about not being able to live up to their expectations, rather the thing she seemed to be doing her very best for was getting the other guy to take things seriously & enjoy Shadowverse. She succeeded in that, but I do not believe she played her best, especially bc she wasn't playing with the mindset to win, like her fans expected of her.

I do not believe you can say you did your best, when you've already convinced yourself of your loss or are playing with different goals than winning.
